Global, September, 18 2017 - Barclays has launched an impact investing fund in order to meet 'growing demand' from clients for social and environmentally-conscious investments.

It is targeted towards investors who want to consider the societal effect of investments without compromising on their returns.

Barclays conducted research of 2,000 investors, which found 56% were interested in this type of product.

The UCITS fund of funds will be a liquid portfolio, diversified across equities and bonds as well as geographies. Funds for the portfolio are selected based on their potential for returns and consideration of their impact around social and environmental issues.

Some 14 impact funds have been identified at launch and a small part of the fund may be allocated to direct investments.

Damian Payiatakis, director of the impact investing business at Barclays, said: "We see the growing trend of impact investing being driven by many factors, including demand from investors who are socially and environmentally conscious and want their investments to reflect their attitudes.

"Our objective, therefore, has been to develop a new and innovative approach that will make impact investing accessible for those looking into these products for the first time."

It will be available to retail investors on the direct investing platform, Smart Investor, as well as to high-net-worth individuals through Barclays Wealth & Investments and Private Bank and Overseas Services.
