Cambodia: IFC Proposes $40 Million Loan to Hattha Bank

Cambodia, May, 14 2021 - The proposed loan will contribute to narrowing the financing gap in the Kingdom by supplying additional loans to MSME’s, including those owned by women, during the tenor of the facility and is expected to increase economic activity and job creation in Cambodia, expediting post-crisis recovery.

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has proposed a loan of up to $40 million to Hattha Bank PLC (HTB) to support the bank’s micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) portfolio in order to improve access to financing for MSMEs during the current global COVID-19 pandemic.

The proposed loan will contribute to narrowing the financing gap in the Kingdom by supplying additional loans to MSME’s, including those owned by women,  during the tenor of the facility and is expected to increase economic activity and job creation in Cambodia, expediting post-crisis recovery.

Hattha Bank is currently the second-largest micro-finance deposit-taking institution in the Kingdom. It has been operating as a commercial bank since August of 2020, when it received its license from the National Bank of Cambodia.

The bank currently has 177 branches located throughout Cambodia, with a gross loan portfolio of roughly $1.3 billion.
